Can bricks become porous?

Bricks can lose their water repellency over time. Several factors contribute to this:

  1. Porosity: While bricks are generally resistant to water, they are porous and can absorb moisture and over time, exposure to water, weather, and pollutants can wear down their surface.
  2. Weathering: Environmental factors like freeze-thaw cycles, rain, and UV exposure can deteriorate the surface of the bricks, affecting their ability to repel water.
  3. Mortar Joint Deterioration: The mortar between bricks can degrade, allowing water to penetrate the wall assembly more easily. If the mortar is not well-maintained, it can compromise the overall water resistance of the brick facade.
  4. Lack of Maintenance: Without regular maintenance, such as cleaning and sealing, bricks can become more susceptible to water infiltration and damage.

To maintain the water repellency of bricks, our water based Ceramic sealant can be sprayed directly onto them. It is totally clear and once it has cured, will help extend the lifespan of the brickwork and prevent moisture-related issues.

Does exterior paint lose its water repellency?

Exterior paint can lose its water repellency over time due to several factors:

  1. Weather Exposure: Continuous exposure to rain, sun, wind, and snow can degrade the paint’s surface, reducing its ability to repel water.
  2. UV Degradation: Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can break down the chemical bonds in paint, leading to fading and loss of protective properties.
  3. Moisture Penetration: If the paint develops cracks or peeling, water can infiltrate beneath the surface, compromising its water-repellent qualities.
  4. Dirt and Contaminants: Accumulation of dirt, mildew, and other contaminants can hinder the paint’s ability to repel water and can lead to premature wear.

To maintain the water repellency of exterior paint and to protect it from UV and water damage, both our anti UV and our water based Ceramic sealant can be applied. Not only will it protect from UV and water damage, but will help extend the paints life cycle as well.

Do metal roofs fade and change color over time?

Metal roofs can start to show signs of fading from UV exposure relatively quickly, often within 5 to 10 years, depending on several factors:

  1. Type of Coating: High-quality, UV-resistant coatings can prolong the color retention of metal roofs. Poorer-quality paints or finishes may fade more quickly.
  2. Environmental Conditions: Areas with intense sunlight, high temperatures, or harsh weather conditions (like coastal regions with salt exposure) can accelerate fading.
  3. Color Choice: Lighter colors tend to reflect UV rays better and may fade less than darker colors, which can absorb more heat and UV radiation.
  4. Maintenance: Regular cleaning and maintenance can help prolong the life of the roof’s finish, reducing fading and other forms of deterioration.

Fading and oxidization can begin in a relatively short time. Applying both our anti UV and water based Ceramic sealant will protect against UV fading and environmental damage, to extend the life of the metal roof.

Does persistent rain work though exterior house paint?

Yes, persistent rain can eventually work through house exterior paint, especially if several conditions are present:

  1. Quality of Paint: Low-quality or improperly formulated paints may not be fully waterproof or might degrade more quickly when exposed to prolonged moisture.
  2. Surface Preparation: If the surface was not properly prepared before painting (cleaning, priming, etc.), the paint may not adhere well, allowing moisture to penetrate.
  3. Age and Condition: Over time, paint can wear down, crack, or peel, which can create entry points for water. If the paint is already aging or damaged, persistent rain can exacerbate these issues.
  4. Moisture Accumulation: In areas where water tends to pool or where there is inadequate drainage, persistent rain can increase the likelihood of water penetrating the paint layer.
  5. Underlying Issues: If there are existing issues, such as moisture intrusion from inside the walls or roof leaks, persistent rain can exacerbate these problems and affect the integrity of the paint.

To mitigate these risks, our water based Ceramic sealant can be sprayed directly over exterior paint. It is totally clear and once it has cured, it will repel rain water and help extend the lifespan of the exterior house paint
